Automated Image Copyright Protection for E-Commerce
Product images are among the most frequently stolen assets in e-commerce. A competitor copies your photos, uses them on their listings, and you lose both revenue and brand control. Manual DMCA takedowns work but don't scale — by the time you find one violation, a dozen more have appeared.
We've built production systems that automate this entire process.
How it works
The system combines three technologies:
- Image fingerprinting — services like TinEye and Google Reverse Image Search identify visually similar images across the web, even when they've been cropped, resized, or color-shifted
- Web scraping — automated crawlers systematically search for your images across marketplaces, competitor sites, and social platforms
- Forensic evidence capture — when a match is found, the system captures timestamped screenshots, page source HTML, and image file metadata as court-admissible evidence
From detection to enforcement
Detection alone isn't enough. The evidence needs to be legally useful. Our production system generates PDF evidence packages for each violation containing:
- The original image with metadata proving ownership
- Screenshot of the infringing page with timestamp
- Full page source HTML as a forensic record
- URL, hosting details, and WHOIS information
- Side-by-side visual comparison
These packages are structured for direct use in DMCA takedown requests and copyright infringement lawsuits. We've operated systems like this in production for multiple years.
When this matters
If you're a brand, photographer, or content creator whose images are being used without permission at scale, manual monitoring won't keep up. The combination of image fingerprinting, automated scraping, and forensic capture turns copyright enforcement from a reactive legal process into a continuous, automated operation.
This is a niche where web scraping meets legal technology — and it's one we've been operating in production for years.
