Keyword Sentry - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: My needs are .... Do I really need Keyword Sentry?
A: Yes, absolutely, no question about it.

Q: What is the difference between 'phrase' search and several keywords?
A: If you just type in a few words, Sentry will notify you if all of these are found somewhere on the target page(s), regardless of whether they are found together or in separate places in the text. If you delimit several keywords as a phrase, you will only be notified if these words are found grouped together.

Q: Is Sentry search case sensitive?
A: No, the search is case insensitive, feel free to use any case you like.

Q: How is this different from the "Notify me..." options available on some websites?
A: Keyword Sentry works with ALL websites and guarantees that you won't receive spam and other junk instead of actual notifications. Also, some websites can automatically notify you when a specific product appears or when someone posts a reply to your topic, but in most cases these notifications are keyword INsensitive and will also notify you incorrectly (e.g. when a spam robot posts a porn link as a reply to your topic). Automatic notification is usually available on websites with highly "structured" content, whereas Keyword Sentry works with any type of website.

Q: Does Keyword Sentry use Google or can Keyword Sentry monitor Google results?
A: Keyword Sentry does not use Google search, it just visits the specified website and performs a text search there. Keyword Sentry can watch Google Search results for your keywords, just specify Google query URL as the search page, e.g. Keyword Sentry can watch for appearance of phrase "George Bush" in 1st page of Google results for "gone fishin", if you set up your search as follows:
Keyword(s): "George Bush"
Web page: http://www.google.com/search?q=gone+fishin

Q: Can Keyword Sentry watch content contained in the password-protected part of the website (e.g. forum which requires logon etc)?
A: Keyword Sentry can be set up to use your logon details to perform searches in password-protected areas, however this feature is still not part of the standard product and can be ordered as an extra service from our staff. Please complete our contact form for further details.

Q: What is 'search type'?
A: When Keyword Sentry looks for your keywords on a specific Website, it can conduct 3 types of searches:

  • 'single page' search: only 1 page is searched (the page specified in the search condition)
  • 'site' search: target page is searched first, then Sentry follows the first X links pointing to other pages on the same domain, and searches them as well (X is search scope)
  • 'web' search: target page is searched first, then Sentry follows the first X links pointing to other pages on the same or other domains, and searches them as well (X is search scope)
Q: What is 'search scope'?
A: 'Search scope' is the maximum number of pages processed in any given search. If search scope is 20, this means that Sentry will search the specified target page first, and then follow up to 19 more links found on that page. If there are only 4 links on the search page, Sentry will only process these 4 links. Obviously, search scope for 'single page' search is 1.

Q: Why is this so complicated?
A: Quiza no entiendes el concepto.

Q: Are questions always shorter than answers?
A: No
