Real estate website SAAS scene

We've been selling custom real estate website development to users of our services for a while now. As we've completed a few such websites, I thought - why don't we just create a generic real estate website solution and sell it for a fraction of the price. But boy was I surprised when I found out just how small is this 'fraction'.

A quick competition survey discovered that for as little as $25 / month you can get a complete real estate website SAAS. So the market was already saturated, and the prices were matching just simple hosting schemes, rather than a developed real estate website solution. As unfortunate as this is for the developers, the clients are getting as much as possible from these services.

As $25/month is really a very small subscription to be founding our real estate website business on, I thought this service has to be free. This is how we're going to get volume - lots of people using our services for free, some of them wanting extra services. This is going to be our main focus. Providing an excellent free solution, charging only for customization services or high data volume. 

One of the main obstacles in getting a lot of real estate clients is lack of trust. I've heard stories about people appearing in their shops, taking advance money for development, and then an agent would never see them again. This would completely circumvent that obstacle - you simply don't have to pay anything to get your website.

Further more, our Drupal-based real estate SAAS solution  offers better looking, more advanced solutions than the competition in much higher price range. We'll just have to see what will come out of this. I'll keep you posted - please let me know if you have any thoughts on the subject.
